DIY RCAs

You can get good quality RCA connectors and raw cable at any good electronics store, or on line through places like Parts Express.  A good RCA cable is simply the signal carrier (center conductor) soldered to the pin and the shield or ground soldered to the outer ring.  Here's how:  http://www.bcae1.com/rcacable.htm

Although any cable will work, we have found that one of the best cables for noise rejection is Beldin's 8412.  I can provide a link to show the measurements by boss took comparing it to Cat-5 cable.  I can also show the extremely long and technical discussion he had between several engineers on this topic.  They were claiming that Cat-5 was superior. 

I think they just need to learn how to solder.  Also, don't solder with the other end of the cable plugged into a preamp that is turned on.   But seriously soldering will give you a much better connection than crimping.

I agree, the folks who claim that soldering will "short out the interconnect" need to learn how to solder.  They are probably using high-wattage solder guns and melting the insulator inside the plug.  And Belden 8412 is great cable.  Belden is the default wire supplier we always use.
