I'm hoping it's not blown, but I dont know what the problem is.

I have a/d/s 6.5 components. recently i've noticed the sound will muffle when it hits a certain low frequency...mainly a lower frequency. i tend to hear it muffle on lower hard rock guitar chords. i havent messed with the cross overs, and the wiring still seems ok.

i dont know where to start to correct the problem by tweaking settings, or if it's a lost cause cause the speaker is blown.

any ideas? thanks.

Perhaps the speaker is rubbing against something? When the lower notes hit, the cone will move out further. If there is something obstructing it, then it will cause it to sound funny. Make sure that the door panel is not against it.

it could just be over driving, if the woofer is being held back because it's driving to far out then that could distort the rest of the sounds, if you have an eq try cutting off some of the lowest bass that you can, or any subsonic range sounds,

somtimes after you've had a system for a while, it starts to sound different to your ears. if both drivers are having the same problem, maybe you're just "getting used to it". i think the fist thing i would do is zero eveything out, all your amps, eq settings, crossovers, ect., and take it to a local shop. they'll probably charge $20-$30 to tune it, and that way if it doesn't soud great when they're done, you'll have someone to bitch at. also, they will be able to test the speaker and tell if it is blown for sure. i wouldn't think it is though, because usually a blown speaker sounds bad at all frequencies and volume levels.
