These are some questions for anyone who can help me out, but im guessing it will be Steven. I have a Kenwood KAC-X811D amp and 2 Shiva's (12 in. subs) that are going in a custom glass box.

I want to install 2 Shiva's (12 in. subs) and was wondering if i can install them inverted (subs firing into the box)?

If so what do i need to do differently or watch out for that i wouldnt normally do when installing subs facing out?

Can I have one inverted and one normal in the same box or is that bad?

What interior volume size is recommended for an enclosure with 2 Shivas?

I know its alot but any help would be appreciated. I am trying to come up with a design so i can start making my box.

That's not a lot at all. Those are good questions to ask.

You shouldn't have any problems with inverse mounting the subs. Just be sure to invert the phase (+ from amp to - on sub, etc.) on the inverse mounted sub(s). As for enclosure size, we usually recommend around 1.2-1.5 cubic feet per sub sealed. Some people may tell you to adjust the enclosure size to allow for the displacement of the drivers. But to be honest, the difference in enclosure volume will be completely inaudible. So don't worry about that.

Thanks a ton for the response and quick too. How would having one firing into the enclosure (sealed) and one firing outside the enclosure effect the sound or anything else i might be missing? Is it the exact same as mounting both flush, besides looking good? As for wiring, to get a 2 Ohm load with one sub inverted would i wire the coils of the flush sub in parallel then to the appropriate pos. or neg on the amp and then wire the coils of the inverted sub in parallel and to the opposite sign on the amp?

There should be no substantial difference as long as the polarity is reversed. (They should both fire the same direction at the same time).

However, some argue that one sub inverted, and the other not, actually helps cancel driver non-linerities. Audible? Who knows.

My advice: try it both ways and see how you like it.
