Enclosure Plans for F150 Supercab

I have developed a nice box for my F150 supercab (2000 model body style). It holds a 10" sub under the passenger's side bench seat. It is ported. I designed the box using WinISD and Autodesk Inventor (3D modeling software). Being a Mechanical Engineer forces me to over analyze and optimize all my designs. This box is no different. I ran every scenario I could think of and this is the best design for the space I had to deal with. I was thinking of making the plans available to other owners of F150s for a small fee. Very nice. It would seem that you would like to start an enclosure design business. I don't know if anyone will buy just the plans though. You'd probably have better luck selling an already built box.

Respectively, I disagree. I have the skills needed to cut wood, hammer, nail, glue, and even paint wood. When I decided to build my own speaker box, I quickly realized that there was a lot more to it than just building a box and putting a sub into it. I had no idea where to start. So I dove in and learned what I needed to know to build a custom enclosure and tune it correctly. Sure, you could just go by the sub manufacturer's recommendations but those port specs are not optimized over the entire range of volume they suggest for an enclosure. In other words, they may say to use an enclosure volume of 0.5 to 1.5 cu. ft. with a 3 inch diameter port six inches long. Well, that may work fine and depending on your volume (keeping port size constant) you will get a different tuning of your box. I'm sure it will sound fine but that is not what I wanted after I pay $300.00 for an aftermarket enclosure. I ran a comparision of my box versus a box that I found on crutchfield. My box drops to lower notes using the same woofer because I have ported and tuned it correctly. Price is a factor as well. I can build my box and buy a sub (Infinity 1030W) for about $85 to $100.00. Trying buying a sub and enclosure from crutchfield for that amount. Plus, I like to do things myself. That way, I know they are correct. I feel that other F150 owners will take advantage of a cheap set of plans that will save them time and money. Best Regards, Mike

If you got specs for a lot of vehicles you could design boxes for all of them and then pop em on Ebay. If anyone will buy it, it's gonna happen there. Just an idea.Nik

Mike, I also disagree. I have 18 years in this industry and information like this is available free of charge from numberous professionals in this industry. While in principle I know exactly where you are coming from as you have provided a service, but you have also done it to a captive audience. There are any number of enclosure design programs in the industry today that we professionals use on a daily basis and we too could do exactly what you have done. Now the information that I have provided to this site and others over the years in the terms of techinal advice can also be looked at the same way, I provided a service and as such I should charge for it from what I read in your post. At say $10.00 a post * the posts alone on this site would = $25,000.00 give or take as some of my posts may not be pertinent information. Not bloody likely the people I helped would be willing to pay (would be nice though). My posts on all forums, well I could have retired already. I think that if you are going to do it, E-Bay might be the best place to do it from. If it is from this site, I have no issues with it as well provided you send a little donation to the site every now and then from the profits generated. Are you wrong to want to charge for a service, no, but here on this site, free and accurate advice is what is strived for.
