I have a brand new 2005 Mustang. I am building a system for it. The battery and alternator are all stock. I am going to run a 320w RMS amp plus a 1000w RMS amp, both Soundstream Van Gogh series. Do I need a cap and if so, what kind. I know nothing about caps. Digital, Carbon, Electrolytic? Help please.

No, you don't need a cap. They are generally a waste of money. You need a new alternator before a new cap.
Install the system first. Then determine whether you need the cap.

I would install the system 1st and if you have any problems at all.....then buy a high output alternator. Capacitors store/provide power when its needed. It doesnt give you anymore power like a higher output alternator would.
