I helped my friend install an amp and capacity in his 98 cavelier. He has a poiner 6500 head unit, rockford punch 6002 amp, MTX 8000 12" subs in a sealed box,  SPL 1.5 capaciter and  4 GA wires. The problem he has is that the amp cuts out and shuts down sometimes. It used to do this at high volumes but now it shuts off at different times. He has 2 MTX 8000 ran in parallel. He has a 140 amp altanator, should he go for a higher amp altanater,  Could the wires be too small., the wires are strectched out about 10 foot or so,  Would a higher capicitor help or is the prob too big for a bigger band aid?

Are the subs single 4 ohm, dual 4 ohm? Kinda need to know this. The cap if it there, leave it alone, do not get another one. Gm vehicles are very bad conductors of current when it comes to the ground plane. Do a read on the grounding sticky at the top of this page. By the sounds of things the amp is going into protection either due to thermal limits being exceeded or a grounding issue.

This is how they should be wired then. Confirm that this is the wiring method please.

I talked to my friend and the drivers are single voice coil and it turned out to be a weak connection between the remote turn on and the amp. Thanks for the advice.
