MRD-M501 input level switch

Hi I have recently acquired an Alpine MRD-M501 amp and a CDA 9827 head unit for my stereo. In the amp manual, it lists that there is a switch called the "input level switch" and it says "use this switch to match the output level of the head unit" - 0.5v-8.0v / 1.1v-2.0v I am just wondering what I should have this set to, as i have looked all through my CDA9827 manual and I cannot find what the output level is at all. Could anyone advise me of this? Also, on another note, I am attempting to set up the "input mode" on my amp, and the methods say "match the output level from the head unit to the amplifier input" - 1) gradually increase the volume of the head unit the display starts flashing. 2) gradually decrease the head units volume until the display stops flashing 3) once again gradually increase the head units bolume and stop at the point at which the "over" indicator flashes I am wondering if i have to set the amp to a particular setting to do this, as I cannot get the display to flash at me at all. there must be something simple which i just am not aware of :( these alpine manuals suck!!

I never could get my MRD-M1001 to flash either. I just used a DMM. I'm not sure about yours, but most Alpine HUs use 4 volt preouts so if that is the case you want the switch to be set to 0.5v - 8.0v. Even if you don't have 4 volt preouts (which I think you do) That range will cover every HU I know of.Nik
