Hi all, I just installed an alpine cda-9827 in my 1995 mustang and am having trouble figuring out how to connect the wires on my harness to make the illumination on the display dim when i turn my headlights on.  My factory radio used to do this.   The alpine harness has an illumination wire and the ford harness has a (-) dimmer wire and a (+) dimmer wire.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Similar problem with my Alpine installation...question: is there 12 volts coming off of the (+)dimmer wire when you take it to a common ground? (use a digital meter!)
Question to the forum:
If so, is that the wire you hook into?
I'm just wondering if blasting 12v into the illumination lead is what powers the dimming function...(just worried about frying something...)

It's 12 volt pos. for all Alpine HU. Should be lite blue with red stripe on your ford harness.

i have not yet had time to hook up my multi meter to the (+) dimmer wire to see if there its 12V.  but here is what i have tried;  i attached the (+) dimmer to the illumination wire and that didn't work, i then attached the (-) dimmer to a ground with the (+) dimmer and illumination still attached and still didn't work,  then i attached the illumination to a 12V constant and that didn't cause the HU dim.

my ford harness doesn't have a lite blue with red stripe wire on it, it has a (+) dimmer wire and a (-) dimmer wire on it but i don't remember what the colors are.

i am supposed to be able make the HU dimm when my lights are turned on with this model HU right?

any more suggestion?  thanks for your input guys.
