As it sounds like I am having a bear of a time getting the darn radio out so I can get the Code to restart the radio after I undid the negative terminal  to reset the alarm I just finished installing.  Now I have done some reading on all the threads regarding deck removal for 01-03 Civics and several had DIY links but all were bad links so no pics.  I did take out the outlet panel to expose the (2) 8mm screws holding the radio and I did take those out as well.  So I thought I was home free but when I tried to get the radio out, it wouldn't budge one bit (seemed like it was still being held in somehow).  I tried prying out from behind via the glovebox and still nada.  So any help is most appreciated........what the heck am I missing here?

I have not been in a 2002, but earlier Civics had hidden screws on the right side that require removing the glove box to see, and bolts on the bottom that require removing the lower dash to see.

Here are the threads I have found thus far (it should be the same from 01-03 CIvics):

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=12488&KW=02+civic

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=2881&KW=02+civic

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=26334&KW=01+civic  (This guy had the same problem as me)

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=18782&KW=01+civic  (this had a link but it is not valid anymore)

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=15708&KW=01+civic  (again had a link had a link but it is not valid anymore)

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=26261&KW=03+civic

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=8040&KW=03+civic   (has a link but you gotta pay for instructions)

The common theme of all these is just to take out the 2 screws and it should come out, but mine doesn't.  Now some say you need to pry on the bezel, but which part (I don't want to damage the dash or break the bezel).  Still others say to pry from behind but I pulled on it pretty good and it didn't budge so I am a bit skeptical.

Does anyone have any links with pics that show the removal process?

Is there someone who has done it on an 01-03 that has any pointers for me as to what I am doing wrong?

According to this I may not have used enough force to get it out (after I removed the 2 screws in the second pic in the link below) because it sounds like the front panel is also held in with 5 more clips.  I may have to give it another run.  For those that are interested the link for the procedure (with pics) is below:

Your just trying to get the radio code?  I was working on a 2002 SI last night and if you hop in the back seats with them folded down and look into the trunk on the bottom of the rear shelf on a brace the radio code was written in black magic marker.   Maybe from the factory, and maybe from the dealer , ,check it out tho.

Ok, I finally got the darn thing out but I wanted to follow up because even the last 2 writeups I posted did not explain it all fully so if you are finding this post, because you need to pull the radio for the code, here is how I did it.

First thing you need to do is remove the piece of the dash that has the lighter plug and pocket. It is held in using only clips (there are one at each corner, 4 in total).  A good way to remove it us to insert your fingers of your right hand into the pocket palm up and stick your thumb in the lighter plug. Grip and it should pull straight out, it takes a bit of force (mine came out after a good yank). Get down low and you will see two screws towards the right side of the opening (there are 2, they are 8mm). Remove these so you can pull out the part of the dash that houses the radio and AC controls.

The next part was where I had trouble and the regular directions did not work, it says:    "To remove this part of the dash, it is best to reach up inside the dash and find something to push this part out enough that you can get your fingers under it. It takes some force to push this out; it is connected with 5 clips. Once it is out, remove all the plugs, and remove the 3 screws that hold the climate controls in. Now you can remove the stock head unit and install your new one. "

Mine was in there good and no matter how hard I pushed from behind, it did not come off.  What did work was to use a screwdriver to gently pry off the front of the dash (as you can see in the above pic, you pry where the bezel meets the actual dash).  It is best to start at the top by the vents and work your way down each side to pop the clips.  Be careful not to pry too hard and crack the bezel or leave an imprint on the dash.  Ther are actually 7 clips, not 5....there are 3 across the very top, one on each side about 1/3 of the way down (ie 2 more), and finally one at each corner on the bottom (ie the final 2).  This just gives you a good idea where to pry.  Once all the clips are loosened, you can push from behind and the entire unit will slide out.  There are about 5-6 (don't remember offhand) connectors you need to undo to fully seperate the unit and allow you to bring it over to a bench to work on.  Once that is done, set it on the bench and remove the 3 rotary knobs (the climate controls) on the front by prying them off with a small screwdriver (they pop off pretty easliy).  Now flip the unit back over and undo the 3 screws holding the climate controller to the bezel (be careful with these screws because they strip easily).  Finally you can remove the 4 screws holding the head unit to the bracket and it will slide out from the front of the bezel.  Now record the serial number for the deck and call up the Honda dealer and they should give you the code.  Just reverse the process to put the dash back the way it was.

Hope this helps someone else.

Here are a few more articles if you are still having trouble after reading my writeup:

http://www.diggersrealm.com/mt/archives/000596.html  (location of where the sticker with the code might be in car....may save you the trouble....but don't be a dumbass and change your battery with the engine running like the guy in this article did.....do it right and get the code from the dealer if you can't find it)

http://www.scottmanning.com/journal/000490.php (countless babel about radio codes)

They even have sites you can pay to have it looked up via serial number but why? ....dealer does it for free!

BTW the code will be a 5 digit number and all the numbers will be from 1-6 (ie no 7,8,9,0....I saw some retard ask about that)
