Hi,

I put a kenwood 4x50 watt headunit in my 1.9 XLTD 306 and for some reason when I put the volume up too loud it blows the 5amp fuse in the fuse box.

Halfords (those great people) told me to replace the fuse with a 10amp one as the fuse in the back of the radio is 10amp but I'm worried it may cause more problems if I do that i.e. set fire to the radio or car?

Anyone give me some advice, I would be most grateful.

check the installation manual that came with it, if it says 5 amp then stay with 5 amp, if it says 10 amp then be hesitant about putting a 10 amp in.....theres a reason that 5amp fuse was there.....

Check all advice given with a meter

Yeah the 5 amp fuse is there for a reason. Safest route would be to run a new 14 gauge wire from the 12v+ in your steering column fused at 10 amps a few inches from the connection, , or a 14 guage wire from the battery to the head unit fused a few inches fro the battery.

keep in mind the 5 amp was in there to protect the previous radio which probably only required a limited amount of current draw.... i would run the power wire to a different circuit in the vehicle that will allow for greater current potential..... battery or ignition wiring, etc.....
