Ok. So I got a 96 Explorer XLS with the "Semi-premium" (no sub) sound system. I installed my CD all fine and just have the amp bypass left. So I did all kinds of looking around and reading posts etc and found the amp bypass harness. So I ordered it and this is what it looks like...
So I go to install it just now and I find that I must have one of the only Explorers that I have heard of that has a different set of plugs on the amp! One end fits but the other doesn't. This is what it looks like...
Has any one come across this? Is there a different harness I need? And no I don't want to run new speaker wires or hardwire it because I'm doing this CD player install without cutting a single factory wire.

Yes you need a different harness.  You'll need the 70-5715 I believe it is.

the 5715 is the harness that we use for ford taurus 1996-99.  Its a long relocation harness that has the antenna extension and the proper ford antenna adaptor already in it.

Expect to pay at least 30 for the harness.  Also you will need to jumper over your blue wire that comes with the harness to a small white back just to the right of the factory amp.  This box controls the power antenna there is a wire that is green with a orange trace if I remember correctly.  That is your power antenna turn on wire (+) trigger off of the aftermarket radio that you installed.
Hope that helps you out....
On a side note could you email our tech dept with some pictures of your installation,  Radio out of dash, factory amp location... etc...These unique systems are only found on two years of fords and we've been unable to get a hold of so that we can upload a how to on our site.  We currently have a list going on our tech support page, when you scroll down you can see what I mean.

thanks

Thanks for the reply. I may just have to try that. SInce my Explorer doesn't have a power antenna I wouldn't have to worry about wiring it. I may just have to bite the bullet and hard wire the end of the harness that doesn't fit. :( Or if I do run the relocation harness what is the best place to run it?

I got the Best Kits BHA5514 off eBay. I ordered that Scosche kit I posted above which should have the correct plug.
