I have the DEH-p47DH head unit. The LCD is cracked and the display is useless now. It will be 45 dollars for a new LCD. While in there I noticed that the PCB has an outline and traces for the IR sensor. If I were to install the IR sensor ($8 from pioneer) would that allow me to have a remote?
I guess my question is, is the remote sensing ability reliant on the faceplate alone, or is there something in the stereo unit itself also?
Thanks for the info.
Jeff

The answer to that really lies in the tech support department of Pioneer. I am reasonably familiar with some of the Pioneer stuff, and I was able to do this exact thing on an old Sony unit, but I would not be able to tell you "It will work" or "It won't work" on a Pioneer.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I tried their tech support through email, but they just kept trying to sell me the face plate for my stereo.
I need to replace the lcd anyway, so I will probably spend the extra $8 and get the sensor. If it doesn't work I only wasted a few dollars and about 10 minutes time.
Thanks for the reply,
Jeff
