I am installing a new stereo in my 1988 Cherokee.  I've got all the speakers connected, but I am having a problem with the power lines.  The wire colors do not match what is supposed to be there.  I have

Blue/White

Gray

RED / Brown

PURPLE / Orange

ORANGE / Black

Anyone able to help?  Thanks.

Has the plug that goes into the factory radio already been cut?  If not, go to the stereo shop, spend the extra money, and get a wiring harness for that vehicle.  It'll plug right into the factory harness, and you can match color for color on your new radio's wires.  Also, whenever you get rid of the car, you can plug the factory radio back in, and take your gear out for your next vehicle.

If you've already cut the wires, use the link to the left of this page: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/vehicles.asp

Also here: www.installdr.com.

Don't take these for gold, make sure you test these wires with a multimeter.

Thanks.  The harness has been cut (The Jeep was in rough shape when I got it).  I matched up the speaker wires according to links on this site, but the colors posted for the 12V+ and switch 12V+ are not in my vehicle.  I'm ready to trash this new stereo!

Grab your constant and accessory leads at the column.  Run your own ground.
