I am fabricating a box for use with my new Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1d sub. I'm going for SQ and the box is a little over 1 cubic foot. I'm looking to push about 400w RMS into the sub and would like suggestions on a well matched amp to power it. I've been thinking about the Kicker 700.5 (which would also power my kappas in the doors). I've been thinking about Infiinty reference series and Phoenix Gold also. What's the consensus?

Oh, and price wise, I would like to keep my total expenditure for an amp or two amps to 400 total, so I don't have a bunch of money to play with.

I run my Kappa Perfect 12.1D sealed in 1.25cuft powered by a PPI DXC-500.1 at 8 ohms.  Phoenix Gold makes good quality amplifiers.  I have no experience with the 5-channel Kicker.

See if you can get your hands on an Alpine MRD-M301 That'll be almost perfect for your subs. I little more power would be OK, but if you run too much (and MRD-M501), the sub'll blow.....I know from experience...
Also, I think Polk Audio makes a good 5-ch amp, but it'll be pricy!!

I wouldn't get the infinity. I would go with the Alpine, a friend of mine is running the alpine to two of his perfect 10's and they sound great.

Ok, I will pass on the Infinity amps....I'm hearing mixed reviews. I have heard good things about Alpine and MTX amps.

You think the sub will blow if I feed it 400-500 Watts RMS?? From what I hear the Perfects are underated and can handle quite a bit more power than their rated 350 RMS. I figured 400 watts would be fine for the sub.

Just watch for distortion and tune the amp properly and you shouldn't have a problem.

I run my Kappa Perfect @ 2 ohms in a net volume box of 1 cubic foot.
I've used the following amps and found them all to be exceptional:
Phoenix Gold Xenon 400.1 (by far, my favorite)
Phoenix Gold Xenon 600.1 (2nd best)
PPI PCX-1250 (Not a bad amp. 500x1 @ 2 ohms, it's for sale.)
And I'm ashamed to admit it, but
Pyramid Crystal 1000. (Terrible amp.)

Its ok, in my younger days when I was starting out I used some real gems like pyrimid, american legacy and Boss. I even rocked the Lear Jet for a couple weeks.
