I've been having trouble with my head unit for the past couple of months. For some reason the face won't flip down, I can't eject cds or even pull the deck to send it somewhere. I've taken my truck into a stereo shop back home, when this happened last month, and they said all they did was push the reset button. I had done this countless times prior to taking it in. Once again I've tried resetting it, disconnecting the battery, and pulling the stereo's fuse. I go to school about 4 hours away from my hometown, where the stereo was installed, so it's a little hard for me to take it back to them.

I called Pioneer and through the broken english the rep was speaking, they basically told me to take it to "an authorized Pioneer technician." I called various places around here and nobody could (wanted to) help me. One other problem is the fact that I bought it online, so my warranty is worth crap. My only glimmer of hope is that the shop kinda knows me and is under the impression I purchased it from them. I'm so sick of listening to the cd stuck in there, and it had to be one of my girlfriend's mixes, total crap!  What can I do at this point? Thanks for any input.

Not intending to bash Pioneer, but they have one of the worst reputations in terms of overall product quality and reliability.  You purchased on line?  Well, if anyone will honor that warranty, good luck and I wish you the best (another indication of the wisdom in purchasing from authorized dealers, and locally.).  Have you tried to send it back where you bought it?  If it was me I'd dump it and get a new HU - from a different manufacturer.

I e-mailed "the wholesale matrix" and they responded with an automatic e-mail that said they would only exchange it within 90 days and it has been about 8 months. I guess I'm learning my lesson about online purchasing. Can you all recommend a HU that will last? I've been looking at Alpine, Clarion, and Eclipse. Is there anything about these brands that I should know about before purchasing. Thanks for your help.

Those three brands are all generally excellent, with the order of preference (in my opinion at least, others may feel differently) being Eclipse - Alpine - Clarion.  Best of luck!
