There is a product that you can wire up to your cd player's ignition wire and when your battery gets to low it turns off your cd player before its too late leaveing enough juice to start your car.... however what you are doing it drastically reduceing the life of your battery, and alternator dischargeing the battery to low too much, and relying on the alternator to fully charge your battery.

if you have a voltmeter or anything you can tell, caps not really a good way to tell because that will jump all over the place with your system, you need something that is closer to the batery,,, running you'll have about 13.8 or 14.... sitting there off with nothing on you should have about 12.5, most decent batteries can still start a car down to around 10 or 10.5 volts, you can probably take it down to 9 or so and still start it,, BUT the more times you drain a battery and charge it back up, the shorter the life of the batery are, and this also probably isn't good for your alternator,

ok thanks everyone thanks for your help.

i dont do you think that this can hurt my optima yellow top? isnt it meant to be charged and discharged over and over again? and would my altenator still mess up and die if i get one of those high output alternator?

thanks everyone.

With an Optima Yellow, you're in good shape to drain that puppy down like you're doing.
That is the *only* battery I would do that with, however.
Naww, if you're not having any problems doing what your doing, don't worry about an HO alt or whatever any furthur. Optima Yellows can put out like 30-amps for 2 hours before dropping below 10.5v .... depending on the system your running you might not even be scratching the surface of that kind of storage in 20 minutes. What kinda amps you running anyway?

yea, the optima is a different story than other bats, that's what they are ment for. HOWEVER, i had the guy at stinger tell me (and i think he might have just been talking shhh) that if you drain optoma's 100% like a few times they are dead, but no matter what, going down to 10 volts or so should be fine for you with a yellow top
