Hello, wanted to know if anyone would be able to help me with this. I have a 1992 Toyota Pickup, 2wd. I bought a new radio for my car, took the old one out, put in the new harness, and the radio didn't work. I check the ignition wire, which has 12volts when I turn my car on. The problem is the 12v memory wire. I'm not getting any voltage on it. Inside the car there's a 7.5amp fuse, which had been blown, which i had replaced before I check my voltages. I can't figure out why the memory wire isn't getting any power. Any ideas? I've heard of just running a wire straight from the battery to my 12v memory wire on the harness, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea or what not.

thanks.

for real.

I did, all of my fuses are fine. Is it possible to just run a wire from the positive end of my battery straight to my radio?

That's fine, but it's less work to tap into a constant wire at the ignition harness.  Also add an inline fuse.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

how much should the fuse be? The radio fuse in my car is a 7.5 amp fuse...but shouldn't it be less than that if it's just the memory?

ok fellas, found what seemed like a solution, but only went halfway. I took my memory wire, and attached it to where my car 12v ignition and harness 12v ignition are mixed. Got the radio working, sounds great! Only problem...I turn on the head lights....and my tail light fuse blows....which is like a 30 amp fuse!

Disconnect the black wire on your head unit from the one it's connected to in the truck, and run it directly to ground.  It sounds like you tapped the dimmer wire as your ground.

Yes, you should fuse the constant- try a 10 amp.

muaha, color blindness strikes again! I'm color deficient, saw the "black wire" on my truck, which matches black on radio, connected them. The "black" is actually the illumination wire, which is really green. 10 amp sounds good. Going to radio shack first thing in the morning to buy a inline fuse. Thanks to all! if there's anything else, just post it here :)

wanted to post this. Ahh, sounds like my battery is dying because of my new radio. Ever since i put in the radio, my car has had trouble starting. I hear what sounds like a relay click when I turn the key, but nothing else happens. Some lights on my dash go up, but nothing else. Tomorrow i'm gonna check my battery, see if it's that.

In addition, wanted to know what speakers I should put in for it. I have stock right now, and they get really distorted at higher volume, and I can't have any base, or you can't hear anything. My head unit is a sony xr-ca330. Thanks again.
