I have a pair of infinity kappa perfect 6.5" components and am going to try to make some lower door panel/speaker pods for them as my first FG project.

Should i worry about the airspace for the 6.5" mids or just whatever they will fit in is fine ?

Thanks

I will post pics

Alot of people say dont worry about enclosing components. Some people say they sound better when they are enclosed. I just think its personal preference.

I sealed my door panel for my 6002i infinity 6.5" and it brought the sound out alot more...to me. All the 6.5" speakers do is use the airspace from in between the door skin and door frame which obviously doesn't allow it to "thump" quite like the perfects are made to do; so really all I did was bring that out in the components...otherwise it really doesn't matter either way.

Sealing your woofers is usually better, however the airspace needed is usually too big to fit properly in a door.

I noticed an immediate difference from hearing it just resonating inside the metal door, ascompared to getting the pressuer needed behind it in the sealed enclosure...almost makes like a more "whole" sound (don't know if I am describing it right, but that's the best I can do) Either way it's all up to you want you would rather do...If you use the factory position in the door panel, it will use the pre-cut hole in the door for it's airspace. If you make a new spot for it like I did, you might want to consider leaving the bottom open or cutting out the space in the door panel itself. Keeping in mind that components don't require that much air space (that's why it's pretty much your own preference, either way they'll work)

i used to have my 6x9"'s open air, and i built an fg enclosure (volcanoes kind of thing) and that added a lot of bass definition, my component is mounted on the door, but since i heard the difference with the 6x9"'s, i think im gonna make door panels or pods for the 61/2"'s just to hear what they sound like...

yeah 6X9s will produce more bass when sealed. 6.5s will will have a more prominent acoustic sound. none-the-less Infinity components sound GOOD!

What i think i will do is build the pods in a sealed version then if they sound bad I will open up the back using a hole saw so they can "breathe" into the door it self.

I am actually building a complete replacement for the lower half of the door.

I removed my old door panels and cut off the bottom half below the arm rest and cut out a 5/8" mdf panel to replace the bottom half.

It will have a pod to hold the 6 1/2" midbass, the 1" tweeter and the massive crossover that infinity perfects come with a strobe inside each crossover.

I will post pics tomorrow.
