hello, i've got a 95 neon with a pair of MTX 8000  12" subs running off a kenwood x401 amp, last year i was at a db drag event and i hit 140.4 with my old panasonic cd player (dfx-77 i beleive) with 1.8 volt pre outs, i've since upgraded to a clarion 745mp unit with 4 volt pre outs and better s/n ratio and all that good stuff witha new cd player.

so i went to a db drag event this past weekend thinking i'm going to do 140+ based on last eyars number (i mean.,...can't drop in spl by upgradeing to a better HU..right?) well..the numbers came up and i droped to 136.4db's . nothing in my stereo has changed, except the cd player.  the only difference is they were using the pressure pads instead of the mic's and the weather was muggy and damp. would those two things cause me to drop that bad in spl or something else going on

i also check'd all the voltage going to the amps and everything....my ego go shot...i got beat by a buddie of mine with a pair of aicent old kenwood 10's (the old blue come with black dust caps)

They were using pads???? That would be a good reason why, as I remember the pads are the old style term lab system, and they suck!
I would also look into the folowing....
Did you meter at a diffrent locatation?   We can gain/lose from moving the mic from the floor up to the dash
Are you using a stock style battery?   I noticed you said voltage might have been one of your concerns, this could be an issue.
have subs moved in the trunk.     Sub placement is a big factor.     With our subs facing rear towards tail lights but the box pushed all the way back by the cab hit less almost by 2-3db vs if we move the box to its "sweet spot" which is closer to the tail lights
These are a few things to consider, I think you deffinatlly need to go to a ported box,   with those subs and considering you are using a coupe/trunk car, it would be a deffinate gain.
The best I have seen with these cars is a shallow box firing up with the ports up as well.
My Girlfriend is currently running in USACi and she is hitting 143.6db on the dash,   very very close to "Legal" position,     we can hit almost 2.4 db higher on the floor.     She is using 2 10 inch eclipses and a kicker kx1200.     The charging system only consisted of the Big 3 and a kenetik hc1800 battery

well..the pads i feel were alot of the prob, not sure what spl they are rated for but i found out the next day no one hit over 145db's (one guy had 2 RF T2 15 inch subs in a large ported box with a huge amp in the back seat of a newer sunfire) as for the charging system, upgraded stock style battery (better reserve and CCA's) upgraded all power and ground wires to 4ga, but other then that, all stock charging system, I was however getting 13.7 with the engine running and it would drop to low 12 volt with the system cranked. the subs were in the same location. facing the back and where i mounted them befor :)   as for the placing of the pad. the ppl running the show put them in, about half way down the windsheild on the passenger side.

as for the ported box, i like the sound of those subs in the box there in, (1.1 cu/ft) they give me good punch but loud when i want loud. (subs are forsale if anyones interested) replaceing them with a pair of digital design 12's.

if the mic was placed on the window, and before you ran else where, floor board.   this could cause a huge drop.   This is not a very good area to measure in these cars.
The best I have seen and found myself, is all the way up in the passenger side floor board. Close to the middle of the floor board between the center console, and the door.
You power sounds up to par, sound like you just went to a show with a very tight meter, and I think the placement was very bad.

no you have to have the pic posted by a service,   there are free hosting services and I think some of them are located in the pic turtoril on here.
Another crazy tip to ge with dring you testing try rolling the window on the drivers side up and down you might find a sweet spot like we did.
All of our runs are made with the drivers side window almost all the way down, with the mic in the locatation that I described before.
With 2 10 inch eclipse aluminums, and a kicker kx1200 meghan is hitting 143.6 on the dash and about 3 db higher on the floor board.      we are chinging things around right now trying to get closer to 150+. Our next show is planned for june the 12th and it is no where enough time to do everything we want to the vehicle.
