A local event is coming in a couple of weeks and they are have a "crank it up" comp. I just got my subs in the fall and this is my first event. I am going to do a few quick fixs to my box...polyfill lining, weather striping, and seal it up a little better. I might order some fatmat, of Brown bread tomarrow to help with the flexing. But what are some things I can do besides that to boost my SPL. I've heard placement and freq are key. I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee if that helps.

Polyfill may actually hurt your SPL. Experiment. Don't just fill blindly. Is your box braced? If not, rebuild your box. All the fatmat in the world won't help if your box is poor to begin with. Find someone to set your gains w/ a scope and know exactly what your volume knob limit is. You don't want to ruin your system at your first meet. Then dig up an SPL meter and/or other measurement system and figure out what works best for you placement wise.

what type of subs and amps are you running???

And by te way what show will you be attending? just owndering cause if its anywhere in the midwest I will probably be there and can help while I am there.

I'm running two JL 15"W0's on a pioneer 780W amp headunit is the pioneer 1-1/2 din model don't know the model number. The box is pretty solid and there is no time for a rebuild. It's in a long trapazoid shape with divider of course, there is no long ways braseing but I put in little blocks to strengthen it up. I planed on just lining an inch or two. The event is in Athens Ohio. It's my first year so I don't know if it is a scantioned event or not.

Fiberglass resin inside the box (take out pollyfill first) If you have no time for a new box, this will strengthen without brace. Also, see if you can design a few PVC tube ports to fit into the box. This will give you a big # differance on the mic (anywhere up to a 6dB gain most likely, depending on several factors). If you have a chance at a cheapy meter (radioshack SPL meter, for instance) see what song/note hits the best in your rig. My neon is at 57-58Hz at the dash for my cars peak.

Where can I find resin? And what do I do just coat the inside of the box with more thickness at the edges.

Fiberglass resin can be bought at boat stores or automotive... hell even wallmart and homedepot carry the stuff :D Just get some cheap paint brushes and paint the inside of the box with it. 2 layers should do good, 5 layers if you wanna be picky. Anything more and a better built box would have been a better idea. The total thickness should be between 1/16 to 1/4 inch... thicker the better, but like i said, after so much, and it would have been cheaper to build a new box.

I just read the page on boxs. And relised that I said flexing in my intro. I don't intend to use the fatmat on my box...it's solid. The flexing is my roof and liftgate and not my box....sorry bout that. The resin should seal the box right. I'm going to do that and polyfill line the box nothing more...im at the low end of JL's remendation for cubes so the polyfill should help me a little there to. I'm gonna port as soon as I have time to build a new box but for now this one sounds great and rattles my stearing wheel so im good for the time being. Thanks for all the help. I got another question... Does my stock amp that came with my jeep count as a second amp? I want to be in the lowest class I can be but two amps puts me in another class doesn't it?

the stock amp should not change your class and as far as quick thinks to get more SPL is turn your system on to its full clear volume close everything like your gonna do an spl check then check every area of th e jeep for air seeping out remeber the main idea is presure find all your air leeks then seal them the best you can clear caulk does wounders and if your hatch is to peace pop off the weather seal for the glass and the metal put a layer of dynamat down under were the seal go and then put the seals back on really help on the glass i got 2 more full points on th e meter before from that but i didhave a lot of air coming out of that seal i know the clear caulk think sounds dumb but every bit of air you stop from getting out and ever last part of ypur car u stop from moving is more presure hope that helps you can also try puting somthing in to take away cab space like a soild box you know what i mean good luck i hope you post high numbers
