Can anyone explain in terms a noob would understand where I can connect the yellow and red power cables from an aftermarrket head unit? I am trying to add a DVD player that will connect via RCA cables to a Blitzsafe adapter. I have disconnected my XM and my factory stereo sees the adapter as a CD changer. I have connected an mp3 player and it worke through the factory unit, so connecting the DVD player the same way should work fine.

The problem is that since I am keeping the factory unit I can't use a wiring harness or I'll loose sound from it. This leaves me looking for a place to connect the power to the DVD unit. Like I said I am a noob so any clean descriptions would be much appreciated.

you can find a splicer in any parts store such as o'reiley or napa..they are usually a baby blue color from what i've seen and you put the factory wire through it in the back and the wire going to the dvd in the section closest to the opening...there is a metal clip that will close down on the wire when the clamp is shut...this will need to be done on the yellow wire that is from the ignition and the red wire that is from the battery....post any more questions you might have.and there might be two yellows but the cdplayer should have the wire configuration ...someone on here might also beable to tell you which one it is

Taps I believe they're called. I forgot to mention I tried those but the wires on the factory harness are too small to get a good connection. I'm almost to the point of peeling back some of the coating on the harness and soldering the new wires to it, but I want to see if there are any other eady fixes before I mutilate the factory harness.

humm..i don't think so..before you do that i would try taking a pocket knife and just putting a slit in the factory wire big enough to run some of the bare dvd wire through it..seen many friends do this for remote and power wires...if you think you are more comfortable with the soldering do that...just make sure you get either shrink wrap or something to put on it after so the wires don't touch and start a fire or anything like that...

If you can't get to the radio harness for power, try the fuse box. Who ever made those t-taps and quick splicer's needs to be shot.
