I'm looking to buy a full set of new JL amp / sub and componant. I was looking around on internet a find some very interesting prices. Is this something we can trust as real JL componant or can be some chinese imittation?

i'd like to know your idea on that

If you're worried about imitations, get your set up from an authorized dealer.

If you're THAT worried about it, spend the extra money, go to your local dealer, get the REAL deal, AND get the JL warranty to go with it. So it'll cost more, but how much is your TIME worth? How much TIME have you spent searching the internet, and worrying about "getting an imitation"? Brick-and-mortars are worth the extra money as far as I am concerned.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Is not that i'm that worried, but it maily to know, in my area of Canada there is not a lot of dealer, it's not like in some bigger city, so of course internet is great for that, it give access to more product that we can find locally.

If somebody buy audio on internet let me know...

Ive buy all the time over the internet and have never had a problem with Equipment, but I have found my Local shops will alot of time cut you a good deal on the equipment if there really interested in making the sale

Now some of the better places I've bought from are

http://www.ikesound.com
http://www.sounddomain.com/shop/
http://www.woofersetc.com/store.asp
http://www.sonicelectrnix.com/

Im sure you will get plenty of different opinions on shopping via the internet if you stay here long enough

I just had a customer that bought a JL 450/4 over the internet and saved $120 on the deal. Three monthes later he fried a channel and came to me ( a JL authorized dealer ) for help. JL will not service this amp in or OUT of warranty and the $120 bucks he saved turned into $520 bucks in the trash can. Be careful.

Was the customer willing to pay a service fee to JL for repair and JL still would not do it, if that is so I personally will never buy a JL product not for the fact of the warranty issue, the fact that they are so stuck up they are turning away free money, you never ever turn down money

But you know there are so many electronic repair places ot there that will fix this equipment so cheap anyways

Jl will not touch the product without a receipt from an authorized JL dealer. The reasons for this are two fold, first they are very stict about the distibution of their products. Authorized JL dealers go thru a load of training so they know how to set up JL products to operate at their highest level. Non authorized dealers do not have this training and there is a chance the products will not be installed properly and the customer will not be happy with his purchase because of A CRAPPY INSTALL. Second, JL does not want to repair any products that have been stolen.

Hmm.. have you tried to bargin with a dealer?  Try waving a fistful of cold cash in front of a dealer and offer 'em about 10% more than the *cheapest* price you can find online.  I betcha they'd work with ya.

I bought ALL my JL stuff authorized for not more than $20 - 30 more than the cheapest prices i've ever found online.  Dealers understand they simply cannot compete with a website offering the same product at a 30 - 40% off.. especially when it comes to carstereo equipment.. this stuff has *alot* of markup, and *alot* of other products can be substituted for them..

For JL stuff... I don't think you will run into imitation stuff that high-end... there is *alot* of JL Audio stuff out there and most of their lines have been out for quite awhile.  Again the issue is more "If this ever breaks am I willing to eat the $$$?"

My JL dealer has the competency of a band of monkeys throwing feces at each other.  I've gotten advice from them that has cost me $$$, time, *lots* of wasted MDF, aggrevation.. and they are generally smarmy and rude *every* time I go up there for anything...  I get the sense that these niche audio brands just push this line of "our dealers are so well trained so they need your extra $200 for every componet you buy.." to try to keep their prices artificially high.  I kid you not I've talked to JL sales guys that seriously do NOT understand how to wire subwoofers.

Whoops I didn't really read ur post.

If you want to buy online, perhaps you could look at brands other than JL... many brands will offer excellent, factory warranties for product purchased online.  I'd start with either thezeb or Sounddomain ... everything both companies' sell is authorized and the prices are quite competetive with unauthorized-clearing houses.  Start with JBL and Infinity.. both excellent values.
