a friend of mine and myself are 'arguing' over whether or not you can take 3 12" subs and wire them to 2 monoblock amps... and how it would be wired... Please let me know your info, and how it would be done.

I would go with one monoblock and 3 dual 4ohm subs for a total of a 2.67ohm load.

well i was thinking about adding just one more thunder 8000 (i cant get a box to be big enough for 4 without raising my class) and then running 2 ta7801 amps, but i didnt think it would work, but someone i know said it would... i just dont see how...

i could be wrong... any more info?

Yes, it can work, but with possibly less than optimum results. There is NO DANGER WHATSOEVER of damaging anything, (unless you simply overpower something) it just might not be the best way.

Wire one voice coil of EACH woofer (three total) in parallel to one amp, then do the same with the other three woofers to the OTHER amp. This way, if the less than optimal situation arises, it will be UNIFORMLY less than optimal. You also need to make certain your amps are one ohm stable, as you will be presenting a net load of 1.3 ohms.

To minimize the chance of the "less than optimal" situation arising, make sure your gains are set close to each other, and if possible, feed an identical signal to each amp, by either using only ONE sub output from your HU/crossover/EQ and feeding both amps, or both outputs to a y combiner, then out to the amps.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

yea.... since i do spl, and im spending time making the right box, i think i'll just stick with the 2 subs, and push both amps to the two. It will be overpowering the subs, but from what i've seen, mtx subs can handle it. Plus they are on warranty at my store, so if they blow, i get new ones, no questions asked (gotta love cityadvantage)

2 ta7802's to two thunder 8000's (unless i can find a way to get a 12cuft box to fit in the back of a 94 grand cherokee w/out the box sticking over the window, and still allowing the extra batteries to fit in the trunk so I stay in the lower class).
