I have a four post 240 amp isolator....with no instructions. Everything is fairly straight forward with it, But I am not exactly sure what the 4th post labeled "E" is for. What is this post for and do I need to connect it for the isolator to be functional?

Thank you for your replies.

If I am not mistaken, the fourth post is for older style Ford/GM alternators that had an external field winding exciter, or something like that... What does you install manual say?
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

hi,

i have an old instruction manual for a phoenix gold isolator.  it shows the "E" terminal used on GM/Delco equipped vehicles, when the alternator is of the "CS" series....1985 and later.  it shows the "E" terminal connected to an ignition hot through a 10A circuit breaker.  depending upon your vehicle/alternator, it may not be necessary.  hope this helps.
