Im looking for a 4ch. amp that wont cost me more than 250. My current system is Alpine type R's component and coaxial and CDA-9855 HU. As for sub i got a CompVR 15 with an old reference 500 running it.

Open to all suggestions on what and were.

Go to ebay, look for some of the older Soundstream or JL stuff. Expect to pay $.50/watt or less.

get another comp VR and get a extreme 480.4 for your mains

This is a personal preference thing really, but I'd shy away from the newer SS stuff. That old 500 is quality, the newer stuff won't match it, the older will. Check posts about SS amps on here, there've been some good debates that cracked down on SS since their new owners in 2001.

I'm not a fan of Alpine amps, but that's just me. Older PPI is comman on Ebay, they do well too.

i have installed many new SS products and the van gogh 1600.2 its well over the 1600 watt rating as far as the other amps i have had very good luck with them
