Noob problem...

Just wondering if anyone here can help. I purchased a used Alpine S-630 cd changer for my '95 Millenia with the factory Bose system. I have the correct 8 pin mazda/alpine adapter, but when connected, I get the 'err' message on the head unit. The changer has power, but sometimes does not eject the magazine on first attempt. When I put a cd in it, it seems to load but not spin/play. The factory Panasonic unit that came with the car never worked, so I have no other reference to go by. I was told that there may be a mis-alignment (?)problem with the Alpine unit.

Any suggestions what to check next or as to where I can view/purchase a service manual for the S-630?

Thanks very much!

Sounds like a bad changer or a bad radio to me. If you have a freind with an Alpine head unit you cant test your changer with that. If the changer is good then your radio is probably taking a dump on you.

Alpine changer's are infamous for this problem. You have a ERR-01 or ERR-07 code error then it's a jammed disc or tray.

Thanks for the reply!

I think the head unit is O.K as the radio & tape work perfectly and the Bose speakers/amps sound good. A couple of times I got the 'no cd' message instead of the 'err'.

I should check the changer first though. Maybe take the cd unit to Best Buy or Future Shop when it's not too busy and see if they can plug it in to the demo board. Unfortunately I don't know anybody with an m-bus Alpine unit.

If that doesn't work out,  is there anywhere on the web that could get repair info or order a diagram?
