I have an excelon kdc-x917 deck in my car. I got it new and it has worked flawlessly up until a few weeks ago. one day I got in my car and it wont power on... It has power to it though, becuase when i turn teh car to teh ON or ACC position, the face moves out to the angled position and stays there. then when i turn the car off. it goes back flat. it doesnt flip around like it is supposed to, but just goes flat in the normal ON position... ITs been really hot here in arizona. could it have just cooked? i hate to see this deck go because its been great up until this happened? thanx ahead guys!

just a hunch, but check both power connections. maybe the continuous lead has a blown fuse? i'd check both power lines with a multimeter or test light. i know my clarion would act a little funny when the power lines were a little off.

A Kenwood MASK unit with a problem on the display?  Unheard of!  J/k though really there's a flexible cable that carries the info from the unit to the faceplate while still allowing it to rotate.  I've made plenty of money replacing these.  The part is approx. $12 but you will generally get charged $80-100 for labor.

so when you power it up, the face moves down flat like it does to let you detach the faceplate?

yep; you need yourself a new flexible ribbon cable; MASK units are notorious for this.

Yup I have a 717 and I had it replaced last fall.  It cost me $63 to get it repaired but that is in Kansas.
