A few months ago I bought the car that I wanted to buy new "a few years agO". I could not afford it then, but I can now.
A white 1982 Mercedes Benz 240D with just 72,800 miles on it. Garaged in the hills of Southern california. Pristine is an understatement !
I have installed a NIB (mid 1980s) Nakamichi TD 400. It needs an amp and I put in (short notice) a 2 channel Clarion as a gap filler. It has a fader (front-rear balance) on the head unit, so the fader wheel on the console is not needed (I think).
I now have MB Quart speakers, older (mid 1990s) QM 100 KN-S front and QM 130.03 KX rear that I will install soon (next week ?). these are co-axials that will fit into the original holes (clearances on the front were tough).
I would like to have a better amp and front-rear balance,.
What amps would you suggest ? Nakamichi ?
Should I prefer head unit or stock fader ?
Any wiring tips (I will us eprofessional installer, but this is not their everyday vehicle) ?
Any constructive suggestions ?
BTW, half my listening is classical over the radio, the other half is "varied". I live in New Orleans and can get acoustic jazz to zydeco :-)
What about wiring an iPod in ? What is required ?
Thanks,
Alan

As far as an amp You should stick with a Class A amplifier for SQ and the iPod option I would not look into until they can interface the iPod directly into the HU instead of using FM modulation. YOu loose tons of SQ from this.
