I need some help, so I'm going to the experts. My background is in high end home audio (Lexicon, B & W, Adcom, Krell, M &k, etc) but working inside of a car is a lot different that a home.
I want to install my old car stereo (Alpine CD, PPI 4 channel amp w/ X-overs, Eclipse 12" sub in a sealed enclosure) in my '02 Maxima SE. It has the non Bose CD/tape deck, which looks a bit difficult to remove.
Any help would make me grateful! I need to remove the old deck, put in the new deck (it has one set of RCA outs), find a good place to mount the amp, and run wires from the battery to the amp and from the amp to the sub and front speakers. It already has seperates which I'll replace when money allows.
I only plan on using the PPI for the front speakers and the sub. I may use deck power for the back speakers, but I really d/n care about the speakers in the back seat. I prefer good imaging and tight, balanced bass. The sub has DVC, but the PPI MAY be stable at 2 ohms. Channels 3 and 4 on the amp are designed for a sub, so I'll probably not bridge the amp. I think that PPI rates the amp at 40 wpc for channels 1 and 2 (I'll run the front speakers off of these channels) and 50 for channels 3 and four. I'm prety sure that PPI is fairly conservative with their ratings, and I'm not looking for BOOM.
I need to know how to remove and replace the deck, where and how to mount the amp, and any hints that you experts can provide. I'll be happy to help anyone with their home audio questions for their help. I've worked with DD, DTS, 5.1 and 7.1 home systems.
Thanks a lot for the help. I'd take it to a pro, but I'm new to the area (Buffalo, NY) and I don't have a lot of money.
Thanks again, Gm

I would suggest starting here: http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalNisMax0.htm

for a small fee it will clearly show you how to remove hu, doors, and dash.  This may change your mind on how to proceed.  I just did my first install and could not get the dash apart to get at tweeters, so had to surface mount on doors.  If you don't plan on using your trunk for anything I would mount amps there.
