Hi,

What is the proper way to install Dynamat into a trunk?

Do you fill the whol;e trunk with it or use the small areas instead?

Thanks all

Start with the unreinforced areas of the trunk lid  where it's just a single pane of sheet metal.  Trim to fit these areas.  Then apply a second layer to include the entire lid area, molding the Dynamat into and over the shallows and humps.  Precut the Dynamat into strips for easier working and butt the strips together.  (I use a carpenter's square to cut the strips.)  Use that method with each additional area of the trunk that you need to cover.  Depending on the sub watts, you may not need to do the entire trunk area.  My car (trunk) has only the lid, rear parcel shelf (critical area!), and the rear end sections covered.  Megawatt systems would need to include the floor and the sidewalls as well, and often need more layers applied.

The key is to use just enough to damp the extraneous noise of the sheet metal for the amount of sub bass response that your system makes.  That means you should be able to do a section, then play the system to test the results before you go on to do more.  Save yourself some $$ that way.

Note:  you will have to adjust the trunk lid tensioners with the added weight of the Dynamat...you don't want a serious head injury!  Use plenty of Dynamat in the front doors, too.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

also make sure that you heat the glue on the dynamat and roll it on leaving no air pockets.

Hey If you are gonna invest in Dynomatt, dont just spread it out and cover the important places. You should just go ahead and cover the whole thing. Most important: Lid, Spare tire well, and loose metal. If you dont the Dynomatt will have little effect.
