Odd Center Channel Question

Ok, i have an odd center channel question, but first a little background.

I have a 3 way component set (1" tweeter, 4" mid. 6.5" woofer) and in my old vehicle i had the provisions in the dash and doors to mount them all. Albeit not ideal, but it sounded good to me.

I have now gotten a new vehicle (2004 Mazda 3) and i do not have dash provisions anymore for the 4" mids. Now the Mazda3 has a factory navigation option (which i did not get) and the screen sits in the top of the dash and folds up/down for viewing.

Here's comes my odd question, since i am like 98% sure there is enough room in that center panel to mount the two 4" mids, would this remotely work as a center channel. The 2 speakers would still have left right fade and be wired just like a normal 3 way set. Actually, i'm just looking for a way to keep the 3way set complete, so it's not really a center channel i'm after, just a feasible and decent way to keep the set complete.

Would this kill sound stage or stereo effect? 

Would mounting a 3rd tweeter with the 4" mids be anything worthwhile?

Am i just going to have to give up this 3way set and stick with a 2way?

It would absolutely kill the stereo imaging and create some nasty timing errors.  You want your mid and tweeter to be mounted as close together as possible.  You can probably fabricate or purchase kick panels for the mid/tweet and mount the woofers in the doors.

Now using the screen location for a center channel is an excellent idea, but don't split your mains trying to achieve it.  Install a mono center channel with a proper processor and you'll be good to go.

thats pretty much what i thought. I had though about kick panel pods, but i guess i was being lazy and trying to get around it...lol
