I have a Pontiac Grand AM 2004 and i just purchased a kenwood 228 CD Deck for my car. I bought a wiring harness for the unit and connected everything up and tryed it out. With the ignition wire connected through the wiring harness the deck did not start up so i ran it to the passengers side fuse box to the "radio" fuse. Now when i turn on my car my deck turns on and when i turn off the car the deck stays on completely and will still play music until i turn the deck off. Is that how CD decks are supposed to function or did i wire the ignition wire to the wrong fuse?

That is because you don't have any lead that is switched with the key. The factory radio turns on via databus. You need to tag the orange wire off of the ignition harness or probe around for a RAP wire.

No, not the orange wire on the stereo's harness, but the orange wire at the ignition switch.  That's the main accessory wire in this particular vehicle.  You can connect the stereo's red wire to it so the radio will come on only with the key.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
