I've purchased an IDMAX 12 and Image Dynamics says that the "normal" sealed box size is 1.3 cu ft but I'm wondering if anyone knows if a different size would be better suited for this woofer for better peformance? I have plenty of space for a box if it needs to be BIG! Eventually will make a ported box but right now I'm saving up for a new amp -- JBL GTO1201.1 at the moment and it doesnt have a subsonic filter plus i would like something a bit higher end.

The recommendations that ID gives are on the small side for some peoples taste(at least that med. rec.). I found their reccomendation of 1.35cu ft for my IDQ's too small. I think I would have liked it a bit more if I had I gone larger ( and I will). With that said, you can always build the box bigger and add material inside the box if you are dissatisfied with the large box sound.

IM going to take a stab and answer this for him.  Possibly because the xxx isn't the end all best woofer on the market, there are other subs out there that offer beffter performance in different scenario's, or give's the best performance per price.  Possibly even so he may have not been able to get a XXX locally and decided to purchase a IDMAX locally.

Personally i love the IDMAX, great all around woofer, and i also love my RE woofer, both suit different needs.

The only place i could really get a XXX was like ebay and it would be used and im not a big fan of buying something like that off ebay. I'm also in search of more SQ than SPL -- the rest of my system is Diamond Audio. If i wanted SPL i would have gone for a Kicker Solo X

ok ok, my bad. and alpine guy i don't know what you're on about but the xxx is the better woofer, musically and in terms of spl performance. i'm not knocking the idmax , it's a brilliant woofer no doubt. another thing i never said it was the best woofer on the market, infact i've never said its the best woofer at anything.
