Can two 12s with 4ohm dvc be wired to a single mono amp?

Say the amp specs say RMS@2ohm 1000x1.  I know what the specs mean, but could two subs  wired into produce a 2ohm load be used on a mono amp without damage?  In theory then splittine the 1000w to 500w each?

I know how to get the 4ohm load out of 2 4ohm DVC, but I was unsure of the amp stability. Thank yuou for clearing that up for me.

Another question, would there be any way to run three 4ohm DVC off a mono amp?

Yes.  https://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=3&I=42
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Okay so let me get this stright.  If I have two sub they have to be wired to get 4ohm at the amp ( if a mono amp is used), but I can run three subs wired for 2.67ohm on the same mono amp????? Confused!

Ok this is how it works, your not saying your amp is 1 Ohm stable so who must assume its not. Now lets say you run it in series this would make the speaker 2 ohms each not when ya make the connection at the terminals it would be 1 ohm. Now when the 3 speakers are run that way the resistance goes down to 2.6 ohms.

Impedance of the load doesn't have to be any certain number.  The minimum ohm load on your amp has to be 2 ohms, but it can be whatever number the subs wire to at or above that.  The amplifier will make power according to that load.

what stevdart is saying is you will use a series parallel combo with 2 4 ohm dvc subs you will get a ohm load of 4 with 3 you will get 2.67 you can try to run your amp at 1 ohm it may get hot cut out or melt the power supply you would most likly damage you amp the ideal set up would be to get the 3rd sub
