Midbass Dilemma - Focal Component Setup

Hello car audio freaks and fanatics, I NEED your help!! And with your powers combined, perhaps we can solve my dilemma. Ok here goes. In hopes of a balanced front stage to host all types of sublime audio recordings, I recently installed a 3-way component set (Focal Polyglass 165 v3). The setup: 6.5 woofer in stock door location (no enclosure), 4 inch midrange and tweet mounted in upper right and left corners, close to windshield, left pointing to passenger, right pointer to drivers ears. Whew! Now the problem(s). Dead spot in middle of car, probably waves crossing waves cancelling out, but I wanted a centered soundstage. Midbass is weak, not thumpy/punchy like I expected... what did i do wrong!?! They are running of 2 x 150w Jl audio amp, feeding to the crossovers provided with the set. The input is split into low, mid, and high; the only adjustable setting is what i presume to be the tweeter, with 3 settings -4 db, -20 db, and one in between with no label. Drum kicks/thumps, and bass lines for some reason seem to be coming out of the midrange, while the low lows come out of midbass. I was all lows below say 350 hz to come from the woofers. Even with the bass boost on my hd turned to +10, its still not balanced, and muddy, perhaps and enclosure would help the muddiness. PLEASE HELP, i don['t know what to do to achieve audio Nirvana :)

Uhh..hmm. More info: What amp? the e4300 or the 300/2? What kinda car? You took care of the silly stuff like 2x checking wiring, etc.? That all sounds totally normal to me. With your bass turned all the way up I'm not suprised those comps sound muddy and gross... try a *flat* signal... I betcha you'd get much better results. Now, most midbasses like that are designed to be run infinite baffle.. meaning they aren't designed to be run in a sealed enclosure...   assuming you didn't make any stupid install mistakes and you sealed the speaker properly against the door panel, I don't think you're doing anything wrong by installing them this way. To me, it kinda sounds like you expect to much out of the speakers. 6.5's really do NOT provide much in the way of a 'solar-plexus-punch' .....   they really should NOT be providing a nice bass-line.. that's a job for real woofers. Even a quality pair of 6.5 speakers should NOT be crossed any lower than 80hz... and at that frequency you really aren't going to be getting a whole lot in the way of bass... "midbass" kinda gives you real warm sound.. lotsa deep, melodious vocals that kinda stuff... the way you talk, at least to me, it sounds like you're looking for some thump.
