I just bought this car and im trying to install a pioneer mp3 playr. The factory unit i took out kept losing memory and front speakers didnt work. The 12v const isnt getting power?I have nearly ripped this car apart trying to track down the problem.I did find an empty socketthat says(chime)dangling near the heater ducts.I have no dome light no chime no drl's and these stereo probs.do i need to plug something into this chime thing?

Thanks!

I hope this doesnt double post the first one didnt post....

I could be wrong as I dont have the wiring schematic infront of me. but it looks like somone got fed up with the door chime and unplugged it. You can get a new one from a local auto parts retailer. If this doesnt solve the radio problem run a new 12v constant from the ignition harness.. it will be a red 10 guage wire.

EDIT: take those steps first, we will solve one problem at a time as they may or maynot be related

When i bought a kit from crutchfield for my 01 cavalier i had to run a constant wire from the fuse box on the far left and attach it to the fuse for the windshield wipers. Havent had any problems with that. The door chime on mine was in the stock cd player, and played on the speakers, so when I replaced that so went my chimes. Hope this helps.

2000+ don't have the switched wire in the radio harness.  He has a 97, so he does.  Did you check the radio fuse by chance?
