Has anyone done one of these? I have a new HU coming in, and thought
about adding the pac to retain steering wheel controls. I can't seem to
find directions on how to get the steering column apart to get to the wires.
I know there are two screws underneath, but I need a wiring diagram. Oh, is this hard to do as a novice?

You should be able to access the wires at the back of the HU. The SWIX should ID them in the owners manual. The SWIX says you must aim the IR at the deck but I've had it work mounting it to the kit, try it, much easier install.
There is no such thing as free installation!

I thought about that actually. it should be easy to do since they are part of the wiring harness to begin with. I have the scoche amplifier adapter, as well
as the sirius tuner to install. after looking through the net, I was under the
impression I had to splice into the wires in the steering column. My HU
is a new Clarion VRX755VD.
