i am having a problem that is driving me nuts every 6 months i have to replace my crossover it is a kicker x3 because it starts to kill the very low notes i am running a bp1200.1 on my subs and a alpine head unit  when this starts to happen i disconnect the crossover and use the radio crossover it works fine but i am tired of replacing crossovers what could be the problem

either your gain is set too high or frequency is set too low. turn the frequency all the way up and let the crossover filter them. set your gain accordingly.

i am starting to think the amplifier is bad because the crossover works fine with my friends system he just tested it in his car a few minutes ago when i put it back in my car the low bass notes get cut off and the amp goes into protection mode off and on i turned down the gain and it stopped going into protection mode but the amp wont get very loud at all until i bypass the crossover and use the radio built in one

The gain is not a volume knob - set it properly and you might fix your problem.

What kind of crossover are you using?  Plus this does sound like a gain problem to me too.

You're using a Kicker KX3 electronic crossover and you keep blowing it up?  How in the world are you doing that, and what makes you think the Xover is failing?  Do you have the bass boost on or off?  How did you set up the three output level controls?  Did you match your amp input gain to the Xover output and set the Xover output level to match the HU output?  Is your signal clipping?  What sub are you using and what kind of enclosuer?
