g'day i need help with my head unit. Audio adjustment - K, W and N? -- posted image.

it's a fairly new Pioneer DEH-P4650MP unit... i've got a 12" sub in the boot, but haven't yet bought the new amp for it. so that's going on soon, but for now i'm gonna do without. the only real audio adjustments i know are low medium and high, because that's all i usually need to adjust say if theres too much bass i'll put the low down but anyway theres this thing where i hold the Audio button it comes up with something like "10K:2W" and my brother thought he would play around with things to see if he could better the bass or vocals...f**ked it!! i fixed it, but not enough. there is something like this: (comma seperating the choices)

F-40:Q1N             40, 80, 100, 160

F-200:Q1W          200, 500, 1K, 2K

F-10K:Q2W          3K, 8K, 10K, 20K

The numbers in bold are what you can change the F- to ('frequency' im guessing)

The Q can be changed to 2W, 1W, 2N or 1N.

Anyway i am guessing the people who answer this question already know all of this. can you tell me what each of these frequencies and Q's? will do, so then i can go out to the car and know what im changing.

probably a confusing question, but thanks in advance for people who care to reply!!

You need the amp installed before you hook up the sub, mate.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Read your owner's manual.  Those are EQ settings.  The F number is the frequency at the center of the adjustment band, the Q is the width of the band (in octaves, usually.)  There are three for bass, midrange, and treble.

I don't know MUCH about that deck - OK, I don't know anything about that deck - but if I had to guess, it looks to me like you have a three band quasi-parametric EQ in it. Parametric in the respect that it allows you to adjust the "Parameters", and "quasi-" in the respect that you are given a few (4) center frequencies and a few (4) "Q" settings. A true parametric would allow ANY center frequency or ANY "Q" on EACH of the bands, and I am betting that you have a few steps for the gain of each of the centers as well... (Dave mumbles something under his breath about "sounds like a cheesy attempt to put "High-End" into a deck to me", and about how much he HATES quasi-parametric EQs. Do it right or don't do it at all...)
The Q is adjustable in 4 steps - two "WIDE" and two "NARROW"
"Q" is a number that simply says how much are the frequencies to either side of the center frequency, affected. The narrower your "Q", the less the side frequencies are affected. This can be helpful for affecting a simple peak from cabin gain or something like that.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
