I have a JL Powerwedge with two 12W1v2-8 subs with a single impedance of 4ohms for the box. Recommended power is 300RMS. I originally bought an Audiobahn a4002t and bridged it - RMS 400x1 and turned the gain up about 3/4 of the way. This sounded great for about an hour. The next time i tuend the system on i get this long LOUD tone from both subs. Amp was fine, but I switched it out with an old school MTX Thunder 2160 - RMS 360X1/ But when i turn the gain up to a certain point i get the loud long tone again. Does this mean i damanged the subs? I can play it loud with the gain turned down and it hits, but definitely not like before. It suprising because i figured a JL sub could take a little more than the RMS recommended.

You're right, that sub probably could have taken a few more watts, but ANY clipped signal at that power for a certain amount of time will destroy that sub.

That setting of 3/4's the way sounds suspicious. I would like to ask you to please explain your process of setting gains.

There also may be the possibility of a bad signal, what is your source, i.e deck or hi/lo converter?

The source is a Pioneer DEh7700MP. Not sure you what you mean by my process of settings gains. I just turned the knob 3/4 way up. When i connected my MTX amp, did the same thing. The sound is like a dull feedback. I now have the gain set just below where it produces that noise. After messing with the audio settings in the H/U it sounds pretty good again and hits hard.
