Anyone know if the 99-04 Superduty's have true Double-DIN openings. I'm curious to know if the Pioneer AVIC D1 will fit the opening of an '04 Superduty.

If it's approximately 4"x7", which I seem to remember it being, you should be able to mount one in there. The AVIC D1 comes with a cage so actually mounting it shouldn't be a problem; the only issue you may have is that some Ford factory Double Din radios aren't that size all the way back(they kind of slope down to single Din to clear a mounting bracket, which can be bent out of the way).

No it is not double din, it is almost double din. So you will need to refabricate the dashboard and the opening for a double din unit to fit. I have one of these trucks myself.

That's good to know. About how much is "almost double din?" What do I need to do in terms of fabricating? I'm also thinking of getting an '05 Superduty steering wheel with cruise control and radio controls on it and putting it on my '04. Then use a P.I.E. or PAC interface to control the Pioneer system. Would that work?

So I just looked at a 05 Superduty today and low and behold it is much larger than my 01. I want to take a look at a 04 model to see what the dash looks like before I am sure of the size.

I've heard that the '05+ Superduty's have a true double din opening. I think the '99-'04's all have smaller than double din, I just don't know how much modifying I'll have to do to get an AVIC D1 to fit.

hi,

American International shows two kits (double-din) for Fords...FM-K552 for older (99-03) and FM-K542 for for newer (04-up).  if I remember slight trimming of the dash may be required on the older vehicles, the newer ones are definitely double-din sized : )
