I have searched the forums but could not find exactly what im lokoing for so I  wanted to ask you guys.

I have 02 Yukon without on star.  I am wanting to add the panasonic 8100 from crutchfield, comes with dash kit and wiring harness.  But i hear that I have a factory amp as well? And i would like to know the best way to by pass this. My real goal is to allow the amp in the radio to run the door speakers.

Can I access the amp simply by removing the glovebox, if so how do I do that?

Keeping in mind i have not laid eyes on the factory amp, but what I am pictureing is similar to a standard amp, and I have the idea i should able to grab the wires where they are coming out of the amp to the speakers, unplug them, splice wire to them and run that up to the radio hole, splice that into my harness and bypass the amp. does this work?

Also what exactly is the Pac convertor and how does it install? doesnt it just basically allow my new HU to plug into the factory amp. thus still letting the factory amp power the speakers? if so i'd rather not go this route.

Thanks in advance!

Why the concern over the factory amp? An OEM external amp generally will put out more power than an aftermarket internal deck amp. What you're trying to do isn't too hard, but it's kind of unnecessary.

hmmm (scratches head) I am probably going around my ass to get to my elbow.  I just want the 8100 to plug in, and run all of my door speakers and my factory sub because it has a stronger amp that the measly factory system.  I'm not interested in adding an aftermarket amp at the moment.  Can this be done pretty easily?

Down the road i may replace the factory sub and add a small amp for the sub then,. but have no plans of ever amping the doors.

If i just wire the radio's wires to the wiring harness, and plug in to the facotry plug, it wont work right?

I really do appreciate everyones help! I've installed several radios in past cars, so i know basics, just not familiar with working around factory amps.  thanks again!

The first answer is that your Panasonic deck will work with the factory amp if you just wire it to the factory harness, as long as you make sure to connect the remote turn-on lead.
Second, going around the factory amp isn't going to be worth the hassle because as I mentioned earlier the factory amp is in all likelihood significantly more powerful; it's also got a built-in crossover, so if you absolutely, positively wanted to bypass it, you'd not only need to go through the trouble of extending the harness, but you'd need to set up your own crossover outside of the amp...it's much easier in my opinion just to integrate.
Third, you're on the right track thinking about a PAC adapter, but it's not really necessary unless you get a lot of distortion; all it does is reduce the gain coming out of the head unit.

thank you for helping me! i was just worried because the crutchfield guys were trying to force me into the pac unit, telling me that it wont work without it, i'd hear nothing but distortion, it would ruin my factory amp etc. thank you for letting me know it will work as what i would call a "normal install"

what wire should I tap the remote turn on into?

Is the 8100 a decent radio? :I love the looks, but i've owned several panisonics in the past and they have all be finicky on reading cd-r's or scratched disc, anyone else had this issue?

The crutchfield guys are sort of covering their asses by recommending the PAC adapter; I've done a few GM amp integrations without using them. If it turns out to distort pretty bad then you can get one at any car audio shop, but most of the cars I've done didn't have problems.
Your wiring harness to plug into the factory radio connector should have a remote turn-on wire in it. Make sure you hook the remote turn-on up and not the power antenna lead, or else you'll get no sound when you're playing a CD.
I sell Panasonic and Pioneer head units, and I don't run into many reliability issues with them...I prefer Panasonics because they are much more user-friendly, although you can adjust the sound on Pioneer radios about a billion different ways (not exaggerating).
