i am somewhat new to car audio and just bought an mtx 81000d and i have a question about this amp. i thought the amp is supposed to be mono but there is 2 channels. why? now i do know that it is bass amp only, but is that what mono means, bass only, instead of one channel? any help would be appreciated.

It's mono on the inside. The speaker terminals you see are just split from 1 channel.

Don't bother with the cap. Do the big three under the hood, and consider a high output alternator.

ok one more question (for now). ive got 2 audiobahn 12" svc, 4ohms. if i hook each sub up to each output, what impedence would it be? still 4ohms? also, how would i wire it to run 2ohms, as the amp is most powerful at 2ohms.

If you hook up one (4-ohm) speaker to each terminal the amp will still see a 2 ohm load. I know because that's how mine ismtx 81000d question -- posted image.
