1999 dodge durango speaker fit

     Hello everyone! First off, I would like to thank the 12volt for having such a kewl site! :) I am currently replacing the factory stereo equipment (infinity system) and have already got my head unit installed (Alpine CDA-9833)as well as swapped in some new monster battery posts and run some nice heavy gauge wire through the firewall into a nice wire block. Now I'm ready to start swapping out the speakers in my door panels. One slight problem. What fits? I've found that I would really like to stick with the alpine theme, and wanted to put component systems in the door panels (without the use of aftermarket kick panels). I've also found a few different sites that will tell you what speakers fit what locations, but none of them seem to sell any of the newer X series or anything like that, so I have no idea what fits. How do I go about finding a better way to know what fits, without having to purchase and return all the pairs of speakers and crossovers? Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Yup, it should be oversize 6.5" speakers all the way around, coax in the back and components in the front. Not tons of mounting depth either. Buy a speaker based on how it sounds, not the name on the front. My ears can't stand Pioneer or Alpine speakers but somehow seem to like real speakers like Focal and Eclipse. Must be the years of selling stuff and being spoiled I guess.Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

ok guys, thanks for the tips. I had read what size speakers are in there, but wasn't sure if I matched the speaker sizes, if they would fit due to the depth issue. When you say "space them out", what exactly do you mean? Does that mean add a kickpanel on front of the speaker opening so that it would allow for a deeper speaker? Also, do the high end speakers that you're referring to (Focal and Eclipse) require a high end amplifier to drive them? I'd hate to purchase a nicer speaker for a little money and then put a non high end amp to drive them. Thanks for all your help!If you think I can help, ask me... I'll try my best!

Ok, so then if I know the depth of the speakers that I want to put in there, then if the depth of them are deeper than the enclosure in the door, I just add speaker spacers? Forbidden, you mentioned that I should purchase speakers based on how they sound, and not the name on the front of them, but how would I know how they sound connected to a particular head unit in a particular shaped vehicle? Wouldn't the shape and size of the vehicle effect how they sound? Does anyone have any recommendations for speakers for my 99 dodge durango with 6 speakers? 1 pair of 1 inch tweeters and 1 pair of 6.5 inch mids in the front and 1 pair of 6.5 inch mids in the back, being powered by an alpine CDA-9833 head unit? I plan on eventually replacing the factory amp with an amp or two for the front and back, and eventually adding some thump in the trunk with another amp and a set of subs. yea the spacer may work but what happens if  you go and put the panel back on.. the speaker will be protruding to much for the clips and all that to go back onto the door.. (as it would be in my case). hopefully u get what i'm tryin to say.SSounds

So pretty much, in other words, look for ones that fit instead of trying to make them fit, otherwise think about looking for some type of aftermarket kick panel. If you think I can help, ask me... I'll try my best!

    Ezra, Actually, there is no "they" that installed the system. I read the directions and installed it myself after doing quite a bit of research. I did not bypass the amp. I currently have the head unit's remote turn-on connected to the amp's remote turn-on to power it up. I bought a wiring harness adapter so I wouldn't have to bash up the OEM wires. The only wire I hacked up was the power lead, because the specs called for a thicker gauge wire, since it has a v-power amp built in. I did that just in case I needed the extra power for it (in case I want to bypass the factory amp, and utilize the alpine's v-power amp). Plus, I'll be eventually installing an aftermarket amp in place of the vehicle's factory amp, so I decided to run a wire distribution block to the inside of the vehicle, which makes it very easy to run the required thicker gauge wires to power everything inside.
