power problem

i do installs for a small shop in indy and for our shop power we have a normal car battery, a 1.5 farad cap,and a 10 amp battery charger. when i hook up a amp and subs to it                    the sound is terrible. if I turn up the radio the subs sound like they are not getting the power they need. if i get a power supply what should i look for as far as power ratings

yes very crappy. sounds like its in a tin can or kind of hollow
