Great site you've got here guys!

My 16 y/o son has acquired a pair of Precision 6 ohm dvc subs rated at 450 watts rms each. Yes they are of the flea market variety but I figure he has to start somewhere since he didn't ask for advice first. I have done a couple of amateur installs on my own vehicles but wasn't even aware of a 6 ohm car sub. Anyway, my question has to do with the best wiring configuration and the necessary amp.

I'm guessing that wiring the voice coils in series and the subs themselves in parallel would give me a 6 ohm load, but please correct me if I've got it wrong. Now can he use a 4 ohm stable mono amp without harming anything? If not, what would the ideal situation be?

Thanks for your time guys, I appreciate it!

you are correct on the wiring. and putting a 6 ohm load to a 4 ohm stable amp will not harm a thing it will just lose power.    if you had an amp making 800 watts rms at 4 ohms. it will put out 600 watts at 6 ohms, and 400 watts at 8 ohms.   it never hurts raising the impedance. lowering the impedance  is where you put more of a strain on the amplifier.

sprahl85   i even seen people put a 2 ohm load on a 4 ohm stable amp and watch smoke rise.
