Hi,

I am not an installer, but just had an Avic-N2 installed in my car.  I am getting really lousy AM reception, all staticy and noisy.  When I hit the station scan feature, it just continuously whirls through the AM band without stopping, because it can't lock on any station.  Not even my favorite AM talk radio station comes in, and it is a very powerful local station. I could even pull it in on my car radio when I used to live 85 miles away!  The car stereo dealer told me that this behavior with the Avic-N2 is totally normal, because high-end car stereo manufacturers don't design their AM radios very well, since nobody cares about AM.  I just want to know if he's feeding me a line, and if anyone else is experiencing the same thing with their Avic-N2?  Thanks for replying and sharing your experience too!

Post your vehicle year, make and model. There is definately a problem. Either the new radio is defective or more likely your antenna connection to the Pioneer is not correct. Some vehicles require a special antenna lead adaptor to allow them to plug into the factory antenna lead. Antenna's are optimized for FM reception and not AM, but you should still recieve good AM reception.

It's a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, MR edition.  I just want to clarify that my favorite AM talk radio station *does* come in, but only if I manually navigate to it, and it is very noisy and staticky.  The Avic-N2's "seek and lock" feature does not find it, and instead just whirls through the AM band continuously.  Thanks for any help you can provide!
