ok i have a 140amp alternator, a yellow top optima, and about 2300watts sucking it all dry..ive heard that if u add a 2nd battery, they need to be the same exact and within 6 months of eachother..wich is all cool..but i picked up a red top for real cheap and i wanna add it to my system..what would be the result if i did this? good? bad? any way to make it work? any help is appreciated..oh ya im runnin 2 jl 1000/1's , 4 w6v2 12's, and 2 more amps for components/speakers..

If you NEED 2 use the red top.....put it under the hood.

If you have the yellow top under the hood....your goin backwards, it's a slow discharge battery.... (deep cycle)

Put the red top under the hood.....isolate the yellow top...and hope for the best?

if not isolated one battery will most likely discharge the other as both batteries will not charge the same... so one will always pull more current then the other.. so it would lead to early failure of one or both batteries.. but when isolated you wouldn't have any problems
