I have a couple of head units with misaligned lasers. I would like very much to learn to realign them myself as that this is a regular occurrence with me, for some reason. Could anyone please inform me as to what tools and testing equipment would be needed and where one might find information as to how to go about this?

This is not something the average user or installer should attempt.  Send it back to the factory.

Service manual, oscilloscope, DMM, and the proper cd. Not a fun procedure, nor is it really worth doing anymore. They generally don't go out of alignment too easily, and usually it is a result of age. It is generaaly best to replace the optical block, then align the new optical assembly...... most average at around the $120 range for parts.
I'd just either buy a new CD player or send it to an authorized service center (and I'm a fully trained repair tech..... I fix nothing anymore. it has all become rather disposable)
