Hey guys,

Im running 2 Volfenhag ZX-4715DVX 15" 4ohm DVC into an Audiobahn A2300HCT amp. I have the subs wired in parallel/parallel and they are bridged to the amp for a 1ohm load @2400 watts rms. I had a cap and it was doing me no good so i took it out and wired the amp straight from the battery and i made sure the grounds were cleaned off of all the paint. i already did the big 3 and already have a high output alt which is rated at 160amps. im running 4 gauge power wire and 5 gauge ground wire and the wire size i used for the big 3 is 2 gauge. well my problem is when im cruisin at 60mph and i turn the radio up and then slowly increase the bass boost my volts drop from a perfect 15volts down to 12volts when ever the bass hits. the alt recovers really quick from the power but i don't think it should drop like that at cruisin speed when your running the alt at a higher rpm than idle. Anybody have a simialr problem or fix. Oh by the way in driving a 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.

Thanks

Clint

I am a car audio technician and i faced a similar problem 2 months ago. If all your wire connections is well done then you have to add a capacitor over 2 farads and one or two optima yellow top batteries or you can change your altarnator to an amp. But if you only change the altarnator the problem will exist in lower than 2000-2500 rpm. This is the only way to solve a power problem like that. I hope to solve your problem an enjoy your favourite music without any power problems.

I say no to the cap. Read the grounding sticky like right now and verify the findings. You should also be running a 0 gauge power line and not a 4 gauge. Get a much larger battery that can store a crapload more current. A second  / third battery wired through a solenoid would also be a good idea. You need to make the current transfer as efficient as possible, go through all the steps to do this and things should improve each step of the way.

What brand of alternator did you get?  Have you gotten a quality specially built HO alt this problem would definately not exist. You may need to step up to an alt in the 200 amp range, to make a true 2400 wrms , your amp will need to draw way more power than that alternator could put out on its best day.  Start with the alternator before blowing your money on caps and batterys, they just store power, not make it.

i figured i needed to upgrade my power and ground to 0 gauge. i also have a red top battery. my alt is made by mr. alternator so its pretty high quality. so i think my next step is to get an isolator and a yellow top. thanks guys
